Army Sports Climbing Chamionships 2009 24th June 2009
In May Boulders was lucky enough to host the annual Army Sport Climbing Championships 2009. The 2 day championships were open to climbers of all levels from complete novice to British Army Climbing Team Members. The Army ran an all inclusive competition, allowing competitive routes for beginners, whilst challenging seasoned experts. Entrants were drawn from all units, both regular and TA with some competitors returning from Operational Tours in Iraq and Afghanistan to compete. The first day was an elimination round to seed the competitors with a concurrent Bouldering competition. The second day saw the Top Rope, Open Lead and Elite categories compete for the title of being the best sport climber in the Army. Congratulations go to Jon Leighton, the overall winner who came one hold from topping out on the final route!
